leonard, revisited

Big, beautiful developments are in the works, courtesy of a woman who more than knows her way around a Sharpie and a block of wood, bringing us one step closer to putting Leonard the giraffe's story into print. And there was much rejoicing!

...or there would be, were it not for a currently significant roadblock: I have to pick a title first.

Shoot.

Dark horses currently in the running...

1. Leonard & the Telescopic Trachea
Pros: Nice alliteration, it's fun to say, and the phrase "telescopic trachea" does appear within the body of the story.
Cons: Kind of/awfully wordy...

2. A Solitary Giraffe in Santa Cruz
Pros: It establishes both the setting and the fact that the protagonist is the only one of his kind within that particular setting in one swift blow.
Cons: Meh... pretty boring, right? And actually one word longer than the first option...

3. Laugh With the Giraffe, Not at Him
Pros: Little bit of a rhyme, so Seussian bonus points. Also nods at the story's moral, I guess.
Cons: Again, bit of a moutful. And still six words...

4. Mammalian Misfits
Pros: As pretty much any art director in the world of magazine publishing can tell you, heds should be two words, three tops, if at all possible. The same holds true for books. And it's still alliterative.
Cons: "Mammalian" isn't very sexy, and it's awfully close to "mammary" (stupid Latin roots)... although that's pretty much neither here nor there for the sandbox set.

...that's all I've got, at least for now.

Anyone care to cast a ballot? Vote early, vote often!

  1. YES! YES! YES!

Oh wait. I misread. I thought you wanted someone to cast a ballet. If I was to vote on one of these (or two), I'd say the first two. The other two don't sound like children storybook titles to me. But #2 doesn't sound 'friendly' for a child like the first one (includes a character name), and the first one has 'trachea' which, while I love the word, doesn't seem like one most kids need to use any time soon. :) But that's my two cents!

    And two picks.
